Omar highlights State’s potential of adventure sports
2nd Mughal Road Car Rally concludes

SRINAGAR, June 28:
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today highlighted the rich potential of Jammu and Kashmir in adventure sports calling for showcasing it as an attractive destination of motor sport.
Speaking at the prizes distribution ceremony of the Mughal road Rally – 2011 at SKICC here, the Chief Minister asked the organizers to explore the possibility of holding motor rally from Srinagar to Gurez to Drass to Kargil to Leh and back to Srinagar.
Chief Minister said that Government would provide all support ‘to the organizers for making the motor sport in Jammu and Kashmir as a permanent fixture in the motor sports calendar of the Country. He said besides other adventure sports events like skiing, rafting, biking, the motor sport in the State has good potential and the local talent is keen to participate in adventurous motor rallies.
Appreciating Himalayan Sports Association for organizing Mughal Rally, he asked them to rope in international teams to participate in the rally in future. He also appreciated the Jammu and Kashmir Bank for sponsoring the rally and making it a successful event.
Minister for Tourism, Nawan Rigzin Jora and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Mushtaq Ahmad also spoke on the occasion while Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Atal Dullo, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Shah and other officers were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister presented trophies and cash awards to the participants and the winners of the event.
The cash prizes amounting to Rs. 10 lakhs and trophies were presented to the winners in the tournament.
In the professional category first award was taken by Gaurav Chiripaul, the second prize went to Harkaran Singh while third prize was bagged by Karan Jung. The fourth prize was received by a local motorist Taufeeq Mughal. In the adventure category Jagmeet Gill won the first prize, the second went to K. Prasad and third was received by Sanjay.
