Omar rules out any subsidy on fuel, LPG in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR,June 28: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday ruled out any subsidy on diesel, kerosene or LPG gas to mitigate impact of recent hike in the essential commodities. "We are ourselves living subsidy and the day we stop living on it, we will be in a position to give the subsidy but presently our plans are based on it and as soon as our financial position gets stable, we will start thinking on these lines," Omar told reports on the sidelines of a function at SKICC here, . India Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday had asked all chief ministers to reduce state levies on diesel, kerosene and cooking gas to ease the impact of the price hike on the common man. Seeking their co-operation, the finance minister in a letter "urged state governments to reduce levies on diesel, kerosene and domestic LPG line with the duty cuts undertaken by the Centre so as to provide some relief to the common man". An Empowered Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Mukherjee, on last Friday raised the price of diesel by Rs 3 per litre, cooking gas by Rs 50 per cylinder and kerosene by Rs 2 per litre. It also slashed customs and excise duties on petroleum products. Earlier, speaking at the prizes distribution ceremony of the Mughal Rally- 2011 at SKICC here, the Chief Minister asked the organizers to explore the possibility of holding motor rally from Srinagar to Gurez to Drass to Kargil to Leh and back to Srinagar. |
