Rather seeks people’s support in furthering peace | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 29:
Reiterating that promises made to the people would be fulfilled in the right earnest, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Abdul Rahim Rather today sought people’s support in furthering peace initiatives which he said was imperative for speedy development and prosperity of the State. Addressing a public gathering, on the side lines of weekly “Awami Mulaqat” at his official residence here today, Rather said that equal opportunities of uniform development and equitable justice would be ensured to the people in all the three regions of the State. He said Omar led coalition government is the first dispensation which has seriously focused on both internal as well as external dimensions of Kashmir to address the vexed problem. “While on one hand impetus has been given to provide all the civic amenities to the people and to ensure improved facilities of drinking water, road connectivity, power and education, political initiatives of State Central level and between the two neighbouring countries of India and Pakistan are being felicitated.”, Rather said adding that J&K is the biggest stake holder of peace in the Sub-continent as it has suffered enormously due to 60 years long animosity between the two countries. He said development and peace cannot be kept hostage to the outcome of dialogue process and expressed optimism that fresh peace initiatives between India, Pakistan would prove fruitful. Rather also expressed keen desire of the Government to empower the people at gross roots level adding that holding of panchayati elections, after several decades, is a path breaking achievement of the present Government. “Panchayati Raj System would give a fresh impetus to the developmental tempo in the State,” he added
