86 Post offices in J&K to be computerised

Jammu, June 29: With an aim to improve its operations substantially, the Postal department has decided to computerize 86 post offices in Jammu and Kashmir by the August this year.
Talking to the media persons here, the Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle John Samuel said, “This step will be a big boon to the customers in the state as all computerized post offices will also be networked for the effective and flawless functioning of the post offices. With a networked computerization, all these Post Offices will offer Speed Post and e-post services.”
He also announced that the newly upgraded head post office in Udhampur would be dedicated to public tomorrow under the project ‘Arrow’.
“The entire office has been computerised by providing computers to all staff members. With more than 50 staff members, this post office is providing full range of Postal Services including Speed Post, Business Post, e-Post, Express Parcel Post and Western Union Money Transfer,” he added.
Project Arrow has been introduced for improving of “Look and Feel” of offices and for improving core operations so that Postal Services are of international standards.
Samuel also informed that a special Customer Service Centre would be functioning at Udhampur Post Office to help the customers. “The Post Office presents a new look with new branding of India Post. Similar Post Offices will be dedicated at Janipur, Kathua and Rajouri very soon,” he maintained.
The Chief Postmaster General also announced the launch of sale of India Post “Gold Coins” on June 30 from Udhampur Head Post Office, Kathua Head Post Office and Srinagar GPO.
He claimed, “India Post gold coins are of high quality with 24 carat purity. These coins are manufactured by Valcambi Switzerland and have benefit of internationally recognized certification, quality packing, product standardization, and assayer certificate. These gold coins are valued as good investment by investors in the whole of country.”
