NC, its MLAs owe explanation to people of Srinagar: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 29:
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded an explanation from the eight NC MLA’s of Srinagar about continued neglect of the capital city and its development. A workers convention of the party at its headquarters highlighted the problems faced by Srinagar people and expressed concern at the way the development process had gone into a reverse gear. Speakers who included the party General Secretary Mohd Dilawar Mir, Chief Spokesman Naeem Akhtar, Qazi Mohd Afzal, Ab Rashid Kabuly, Ab Hameed Kosheen , Ab Ahad Farhaad and Mohd Ashraf Mir district president focused upon the arrogant and casual attitude of the ruling party that has been taking Srinagar for a ride and exploiting it emotionally for votes and then selling out its interests. “They take our votes every time in the name of Autonomy, development and making Srinagar a model city but when it comes to delivery they always end up doing the reverse,” the speakers said. The leaders said it was ironical that the Chief Minister and his publicity machinery had tried to turn people’s wrath at Beerwah into a virtue by claiming that he does not make false promises. If the national Conference and the Chief Minister had any sense of accountability they might just go through their election manifesto and the promises made in 2008 which included employment, free electricity and subsidized or even free cooking gas. The party leaders said it had never happened to Srinagar that Rs 50 Crore sanctioned by the central government for Srinagar city roads had been diverted to another region. The funds for seven flyovers approved for Srinagar under the Asian Development Bank projects through ERA too had been diverted and as a result Srinagar was reduced to an overpopulated slum whereas other regional & District head quarters are looking like metropolitans.
