| Four states to adopt new NCERT textbooks | | | New Delhi: From this academic year onwards, four states will prescribe new NCERT textbooks prepared on the lines of revised curriculum for students in government schools.
Jharkhand, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana will be using the new textbooks prepared on the basis of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and have already acquired the copyrights.
"We have been encouraging the states to revise their textbooks on the basis of NCF 2005 which contains the broad guidelines for revision of curriculam. Since our books have been developed on the basis of NCF, these states have decided to use our books as it is," Head of NCERT Curriculam group Prof M A Khader told PTI.
NCERT has introduced new textbooks in class-I, III, VI, IX and XI from this year. It would introduce new textbooks in class-II, IV, VII, X and XII next year, while the books for class V and VIII will be introduced in 2008.
"These states would use our new books in accordance with our phase-wise introduction," he said.
The NCERT is providing Rs 10 lakh for each states for revision of their textbooks on the line of NCF and they have started the process for revision, he said.
"Other states are in the line of revising their textbooks. While some of them have already set up expert committees for the purpose, the process has been delayed in a few states. But response for revision of textbooks is positive from all states," Khader said. |
