Dhruv slams another ton to guide Secretary XI to big win

JAMMU, June 30: Former captain and first class cricketer of the state, Dhruv Mahajan today hit second century to guide General Secretary XI to three wicket win over Working President XI in the ongoing President Cup (league) Tournament, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.

Chasing a target of 208 runs, Secretary XI overhauled the total making 211 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 61 overs in the post lunch session of the two-day competition.
Dhruv, who came at number five, when Secretary XI was struggling at 72 for three with Jasvinder (43), Parvez Malik (5) and Irshad (5) already back to the pavilion. He first made a partnership of 54 runs with youngster Pranav Gupta, who scored superb 43 runs in 86 balls and then added 57 runs with all-rounder Soumay Jain (14) to guide his team to three-wicket win.
Dhruv struck unbeaten 107 runs with the help of 13 boundaries and two sixes. Even as Secretary XI chased the target, the game continued for a few more overs and finally the stumps were drawn when Secretary XI was on 232 for seven with Dhruv on 107 and Dilbagh Singh playing at eight on the other end.
From Working President XI, medium pacer, Rahil Singh claimed three wickets, while off-spinner, Anoop Mangotra bagged two including that of Amit Billowria, who was caught at short-leg on a delivery which turned sharply. Young spin bowler, Manik Gupta also bowled well.

Earlier, resuming from overnight score of 180 for seven, the Working President XI batsmen failed to tackle the left-arm spinner Dilbagh Singh and genuine quick bowler Arshad Sheikh and were bundled out for 207 runs in 76.2 overs.
Chetan Chib, who was unbeaten on 41 runs just added five more runs to his overnight score to make it 46, while another overnight batsman Nitin Mehra added 9 more to take his individual total to 20 runs. Anoop Mangotra also contributed 13 runs to the team’s total.
From General Secretary XI, Dilbagh Singh took more wickets to finally make it three while Arshad bagged one.
