Training programme on water harvesting concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 30: A seven-day long training programme on “Scaling up of water productivity in agriculture for livelihoods through teaching-cum-demonstration” for farmers concluded today at village Kariyan of Rajouri district. A total of 104 farmers including 50 men and 54 women participated in the training programmes. Training programmes were organized by Water Management Research Centre (WMRC), Chatha of Sher –e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu in collaboration with Regional Agriculture Research Station and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri. Addressing the farmers, Er N K Gupta (Sr. Scientist and Nodal officer of this scheme), stressed upon water conservation, methods of water harvesting as well as judicious use of water for enhancing the productivity from agriculture and allied sectors. During the seven days of training programme experts from different disciplines viz. Crop production, Mushroom cultivation, Vermi-composting, Improved agricultural implement, Cultivation of improved tree and grass fodder, Horticulture, Vegetable production and Disease management performed teaching as well as demonstration to the farmers. On the concluding day farmers were given kitchen gardening kits containing hybrid seeds of vegetables and agricultural hand tools along with pesticide sprayer pump for community use free of cost. During the distribution Dr A P Singh (Subject matter specialist Crop production) briefed the farmers about the use of hybrid seed and efficient use of balanced fertilizer along with water management practices for enhancing productivity.
