Taj seeks relaxation of AIBP norms for JK, CWC team calls on him | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 30 (KNS): The Central Water Commission (CWC) team led by its member, R C Jha called on the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi ud Din here today. The team arrived here today on a visit to the State. During the interaction implementation of central schemes like Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme(AIBP) and Flood Management Programme (FMP) came up for discussion. The Minister told the team that the guidelines of the two schemes need to be relaxed in favor of Jammu & Kashmir in view of the fact that it has already suffered losses due to Indus Water Treaty. Taj told the CWC team that a large chunk of irrigated land in the State has been used for urbanization or converted into non irrigated use like orchards. As a result, he said, this needs to be deleted from the data of irrigated command area. He said he has already directed the Chief Engineers, Irrigation & Flood Control of Kashmir and Jammu to make a fresh assessment based on factual figures and get it reconciled with the Indus Commissioner. He also sought immediate clearance of Jhelum Master Plan by the Centre. Commissioner-Secretary, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mehboob Iqbal, Director, CWC, Jammu, K K Gupta, Chief Engineers, I&FC, Kashmir and Jammu and other officers were also present on the occasion. |
