SPO hurt as LeT ultras attack police post at Keshwan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KISHTWAR, JUNE 30 : Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants struck the remote Nagnigard Keshwan police post here in the wee hours of Thursday morning, critically wounding a special police officer (SPO). LeT district commander Habib Gujjar alias Salman and his deputy Khurshid Ahmad threw a grenade towards the police post at 1.30 am when some cops were about to leave for routine night patrolling. In the explosion, SPO Mushtaq Ahmad sustained serious splinter injuries. The blast was followed by heavy firing by the militants, according to police sources. The cops, who guarded the post, retaliated. After a brief exchange of fire, the militants fled the spot unhurt, the sources added. Mushtaq was later evacuated by his colleagues to the Kishtwar district hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger. Reinforcements rushed to the Nagnigard Keshwan woods had launched a massive operation in search for the escaped militants. The operation was on when reports last came in. This was the third militant attack on the post in the past less than one year. Militants had also attacked the house of police post incharge, cop Qasim Din last year and killed his mother Gorji Begum. His family members, who were held hostage, however, survived as the militants had fled following the arrival of security forces. Habib was said to be behind all these attacks. |
