Unabated rush of Amarnath pilgrims continue, unregistered yatris surpass number | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 30 : Though the authorities had decided to debar all un registered pilgrims to holy cave of Baba Amarnath and stop them ahead of Jawahar tunnel, to avoid the rush of pilgrims on two tracks of holy cave thousands of yatris still manage to reach both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps from here on the second day of yatra today. While over 30,000 pilgrims had left for darshan from two tracks early in the morning yesterday out of which 19,000 pilgrims had alone left from Baltal to holy cave, the same rush has been witnessed today also on both the tracks. This has happened despite stopping of several thousand unauthorized pilgrims at various places in Jammu region from Kathua to Jawahar tunnel. The authorities on the insistence of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board( SASB) which is looking after the annual yatra arrangements have decided to stop the unregistered pilgrims as this would otherwise create a mess at the two base camps and lead to unnecessary problems for the pilgrims especially in the event of a heavy down pour. To regulate the yatra on two tracks and allow its smooth passage the management of Shrine Board, has issued directives to the state administration not to allow the unregistered pilgrims as their number during last two days of yatra has surpassed the registered pilgrims. The record number of pilgrims reaching the base camps has also exposed the claims of the administration about the yatra arrangements as the Board was unable to accommodate such a huge number of pilgrims and provide them the facilities. However undeterred by the authorities action the unregistered pilgrims still continue to reach Kashmir Valley on the second day of yatra today from different parts of the country to have the darshan at holy cave. According to reports majority of these pilgrims have chosen the Baltal track which is shortest distance of 16 kilometres only. The yatris using this track manage to perform the darshan in the same day and return to base camp in the evening. The yatris preferring to take the traditional Pahalgam, Chandanwari track had to spent two nights at Sheshnag and Panchtarni in the way before reaching holy cave for darshan. The increasing rush has been reason of Board's rigidity to start the yatra on traditional date of Jesht Purnima as suggested by Baba Amarnath Yatri Niyas. Had the Board agreed to start the yatra on Jesht Purnima there would have not been such a huge rush, said VHP leader, Khem Raj Sharma. Justifying that yatra should run for two months every year he said such a decision would help in regulation of yatra on two tracks. |
