Sham concludes 2-day extensive tour of south Kashmir | Lays foundation of Rs. 14 cr health institutions | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 30: With a view to take stock of healthcare facilities in the rural and far-flung areas of south Kashmir, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma conducted 2-day extensive tour of Kulgam and Anantnag districts. During the tour, the Minister laid foundation stones of two health projects and inspected a number of institutions. He also reviewed the pace of progress of various on-going health projects and horticulture activities in these districts. To further strengthen the healthcare facilities in the area, the Minister laid foundation stone of new buildings of sub-district hospital, Dooru to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 12.25 crore and primary health centre, Sadiwara at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.43 crore. Sham also inaugurated the newly developed Blood Bank at Dooru. The Blood Bank has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 90 lakh and will cater to the needs of dozens of villages of this remote area. Addressing largely attended public meetings at Dooru, Sadiwara, Nowgam and Larkipora, the Minister said that Coalition Government was committed to provide better facilities to the people of rural and far-flung areas. He said health and education are the core areas and government has been giving focused attention to improve these sectors to make accessible these two important facilities to the people at their doorsteps. He said government is working under a well-knit programme to improve the basic facilities like road connectivity, drinking water, power supply and improving the overall socio-economic conditions of the people of rural areas. The Minister also chaired the meetings of sectoral officers at Verinag and Achabal and reviewed the progress of various development projects under health, horticulture and floriculture sectors. He issued on-the-spot instructions to the officers to speed up the pace work and complete the on-going projects in a time bound manner. He directed the head of the departments to consult local MLAs while taking up new projects. He also emphasized strengthening the monitoring mechanism for timely completion of various on-going projects and judicious use of funds.
