Junior doctors discuss problems, demand redressal
7/1/2011 12:30:36 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 30: Junior doctors association today held its general body meeting today under the chairmanship of JDA President Satyainder Singh in which a large number of junior doctors of GMC Jammu participated and discussed the various problems faced by the junior doctors.
The doctors urged upon the Minister for Medical Education to address their genuine and long-pending demands as soon as possible. It was also urged upon the Minister to concentrate on the real and basic issues which need an immediate attention to improve the overall working condition of the doctors and the patient care.
The doctors there demanded that there is total non-availability of life saving drugs in the hospitals due to which the junior doctors have to face serious problems in treating the poor patients and puts them in an awkward situation.
It was also demanded that the security scenario in GMC Jammu, SMGS Hospital and other Associated hospitals is at its worst. The security that is available is defunct which results in the huge rush of attendants which often results in misbehavior, misconduct and even a scuffle between the attendants and the doctors, which badly affects the efficiency of the doctors and deteriorates the patient care. Despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities nothing was done in this regard except How assurances.
The junior doctors while addressing the media said that the PG Doctors are not getting their stipend in time and their stipend has not been enhanced in accordance with the Govt. Order No. 494HME of 2009 dated 16-11-2009 which states that the PG doctors will get the revised rates which shall bear an increase of 3% in their stipend every year. The principal GMC has already been given a memorandum regarding this but nothing concrete has been done so far.
The junior doctors requested the minister to solve these issues at the earliest. They said that many doctors do not like to wear an apron because of the simple fact that there is a Govt. order which defines a proper colour coding of aprons for every cadre of staff working in the hospital but in practice no such colour coding is being followed nor has ever been any questions being raised regarding this.
. Among the prominent who were present in the meeting were Dr. Pradeep Bhau(Sr. V President), Dr. Suhail Bhat(V. President), Dr. Vinay Menia, Dr. Vinod Mitla Dr. Irfan and Dr. Muneeb and other registrars and post-graduate doctors.
