Price rise put survival of 80 crore Indians at stake
BALBIR RAM7/1/2011 12:42:07 AM
The recent hike in the prices of kitchen gas cylinder by fifty rupees, diesel by three rupees and kerosene oil by two rupees across the country has totally exposed the Congress, which boasts of being the party with concern for the masses. It should now leave no one in any doubt that the slogan of this political party--"Congress ka haath, gareeb ke saath" is based on vote bank politics, carved to mislead the masses for seeking their votes to grab the power and but failed to provide any respite to the poor citizens of the largest democracy of the world. Rather, this decision has added to the woes of the people. In reality, how much concerned the Congress has been towards the poor (gareeb) of the country is crystal clear from the Congress-led UPA government's recent decision to make manifold increase in the price of a gas filled LPG cylinder for use in kitchen besides hike in the prices of diesel and kerosene oil. While price rise of LPG and kerosene oil will disturb the family’s monthly budget fixed for the kitchen, the diesel price hike will obviously and adversely leave impact on almost every aspect of our life. The price of other products will also rise as transport carriage will proportionally go high.
Roti Kapda aur Makaan-were the three minimum requirements once considered as need for every individual. With the ever increasing prices, one who dreams of having own house in the present day is the person living in fool's paradise as it has become difficult for him or her to save even a penny.
Surveys conducted from time to time show that more than 80 crore people in India are those unfortunate ones who earn just rupees twenty per day, which means they have a maximum amount of rupees six hundred in total in a month to spend. One has to manage three time meals, purchase medicines, pay tuition fee of children, buy clothes, spend on travel, pay bills of mobile, electricity and water etc. And 80 crore Indians have to manage their all the expenditure out of these six hundred rupees, which is not only difficult but totally impossible. One with a magic wand can only manage these things in daily earning of twenty rupees. Being well aware of the facts related to the existing poverty and the number of people earning just rupees twenty per day, the Congress led government at the centre still decided to make such steep hike. Can this decision be welcomed and termed as poor friendly. No. Never. Every right thinking person will describe such a decision as dangerous which has put question mark on the very survival of 80 crore people of this country. Their survival has been put at stake. It is not for the first time that the prices have been increased. In the past too, the Congress-led UPA took anti-poor decisions and ordered hike in the prices of LPG, petrol, diesel and kerosene oil more than once.
Ours is a democracy. About democracy it is said--government of the people, by the people and for the people. In other words, this single line definition of democracy itself says that people are the sole authority to make decisions. If people are the authority to take decisions, is it possible that they will take such decisions will put their survival at stake. No. Never. They will never do so because they are well aware of their financial position. If in a democracy the people do not take decisions then who is there who risks the survival of 80 crore of Indians. Does any individual, a group or any organization comprising of few dozens of people has any right to decide the survival of crores of citizens. Although the Congress with its allies has the mandate to govern the country but that does not mean that a few ministers should take such decisions which pose threat to the survival of crores of Indians.
