Radio a vital tool for social transformation: Rather

SRINAGAR, JULY 1- Eulogising the role played by Radio Kashmir, Srinagar in eradicating evils from the society the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather today said that this premier broadcasting Institution has acted as a vital bridge between the Government and people in the State since last six decades.
Speaking at a simple but impressive function organized to mark the 63rd Foundation Day of Radio Kashmir, Mr. Rather said Radio shall have to continue broadcasting public awareness programmes in future also to bring a positive change among the people vis-à-vis scientific advancements in the field of agriculture and information technology besides upholding moral values in the society.
The function was attended by a large number of artists, writers, intellectuals, members of media fraternity including Director Radio Kashmir, Mr. Javed Ahmad, noted poet and critic, Professor Rehman Rahi and Gh. Nabi Khayal.
Mr. Rather appreciated Radio Kashmir for conceiving some popular programmes like Gami Bayin Hindi Bapat (for rural populace), Dad Bidad and Wadi Ki Awaz which have benefitted the people enormously.
He said Radio programmes have a vast reach as these are aired in eight languages including Urdu, Kashmiri, English, Punjabi, Gogri, Dogri etc. He said Radio station also plays a significant role to strengthen bonds of mutual understanding between people across LOC and Jammu and Kashmir adding that it represents aspirations of the people and takes their voice upto the higher echelons of power” so it is our responsibility to make this broadcasting station stronger.
Complimenting the role of Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Mr. Rather said unlike other radio stations of the country, Radio Kashmir has a peculiar role and responsibility in view of States’ Geo-political condition which is surrounded by some hostile neighbours.
He said Radio Kashmir had to pass through a most turbulent period of turmoil during last two decades when most of the artists and announcers suffered a lot. Mr. Rather prayed for prosperity and progress of the station so that it could play a befitting role in shaping an evil free society.
Earlier, artists of the Radio Station presented a variety cultural show which included songs and Gazal by renowned singers Manzoor Ahmad Shah. A young singer Ms. Zamrooda presented her maiden and first stage Gazal “Karith Goham Chhaloo”
Zai Kerthas Walloo” which enthralled the jam packed auditorium.
