BJP opposes closure of post office | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 1: It is being heard that the Department of Post has decided to close some post offices, including one such running in Dhounthly Bazar of Jammu old city. If this is true, we oppose it tooth and nail and will not allow it to happen. This was announced by BJP district vice President Karan Singh while addressing media persons on Friday. Karan Singh said that the post office at Dhounthly Bazar is functioning since the last 40 years. Thousands of people living in and around Dhounthly Bazar have their accounts here. Besides availing the facilities of buying stamps, envelops, money orders, parcel, postal orders etc, there are hundreds of such people who have their pension accounts. Every month the old aged men and women get their pension withdrawn through this post office. At an age of 70-80 years, the pensioners cannot travel to far off places and this post office suits them. Karan Singh said that the department should not take any such decision which creates problems for the people. He said that the party activists will come on roads along with thousands of account holders if the post office is closed or shifted to any other place. W.No. 1 Convener Naresh Abrol was also present in the press conference. Ends----
