| Thathri people rue mismanagement in road survey | | |

Jammu, July 1: State President Dalit Sena, Anil Kumar Bhagat has urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and MOS for R&B to personally look into the grievances of the people of Kahara-Jai belt in Tehsil Thathri, District Doda .
They are much discontented regarding the alignment & execution of work on Kahara-Jai road.
One gross irregularity has already been committed and another is in the offing.
According to the original survey of 1987 conducted by PWD Bhadarwah Division, which was later upheld by Era in the beginning ( as it was perfectly according to norms), the road was to pass through Budhi, Joura Kalan, lower Shamdlian , lower Ghoroo and its length was six kilometers from Kahara to Halaran and 19 Kilometers from Halaran to Jai.
Objectionable deviation that has been made from the original survey is that instead of 6 kilometers the length of the constructed part of the road from Kahara to Halaran is 12 kilometers now.
As the constituency Inderwal of the ex- R&B Minister is up to Halaran only, he has increased the length of the road by 6 kilometers to connect every village of his constituency at the cost of development in the next stretch from Halaran to Joura which falls in Bhadarwah constituency.
As the first phase of Kahara-Jai road project, funds for the first 16 Kms portion from Kahara to Joura Kalan were sanctioned during the Chief Ministership of Azad. Its survey was first conducted by Era and Azad got funds under CRF and executed by R&B department up to Halaran.
Now the work from Halaran on wards has been handed over to PMGS. When contacted PMGSY staff Thathri, it said that the department (instead of Joura Kalan as per original surey) and named it as L026 Kahara-Joura Khurd Road.
Kahara to Halaran has already been completed. Then what is this Kahara to Joura Khurd road ? Are two parallel roads going to be constructed! In fact this rumour is being flouted to mislead the public so that they passively allow this wrong survey to get finalized.
We strongly protest against it. We appeal Chief Minister & MOS for R&B that they should not allow this deviation from the original and well thought out survey by renaming this road as L026 Kahara-Joura Khurd road.
The new and self-willed survey involves destruction of more forest area, wastage of more cultivable land and ignoring village Suranga which is inhabited by Scheduled Caste people and village Kunthal which is inhabited by Gujjars.
