CM for unified efforts of legislators to seek prosperity

Jammu, July 1 (KNS): Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today laid foundation of Rs. 113 crore new Legislative Complex at Jammu. He said the need for an up to the mark Legislative Complex at Jammu to provide befitting facilities to the legislators and Assembly and Council Secretariats, was being felt for a long time and the new complex will be answer to it.
Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Law & Justice, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Arvinder Singh Micky, Ministers, Legislators, senior government functionaries and others were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister underlined the need for joint efforts by the legislators transcending political confederations should jointly work to seek peace and prosperity in the State and well-being of its people. “We should work together rising above party politics for the speedy progress and development of the State and restoration of permanent peace”, he said adding that new Legislative Complex would provide adequate facilities to the legislators to undertake their legislative responsibilities.
Omar Abdullah asked the executing agency to complete the complex within the prescribed timeline.
The new complex to house both Assembly and Council Secretariats and provide ample space for the halls of the two Houses, comprises of a 6 story main building to be constructed near the existing Assembly Complex over a plinth area of 61655 sft. The total build up area will be 244790 sft while the basement area is proposed to be 123202 sft.
The new block will have upper and lower basements capable of providing parking facilities to about 240 vehicles besides housing canteen and health clinic. In minus two level there will be Assembly Hall with a capacity for 130 members. At minus one level there will be offices while at main level Council Hall with a capacity for 65 members and accommodation for offices will be constructed. At plus one level there will be offices too.
The existing block will accommodate library, lounge, central hall with 180 seats, auditorium with 300 seating arrangement and galleries with 500 seating capacity. It will also house pump and electric rooms.
