AHJLA says threat to Amarnath pilgrim lives due to uncontrolled | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: All Jammu Hotel and Lodges Association (AHJLA) on Friday apprehended that some mishap could take place due to uncontrolled and heavy rush of pilgrims, covering journey from Phalgham and more so from Baltal to the cave of Baba Amarnath.
An emergency meeting of the Jammu hoteliers association held here on Friday, to take stock of the situation arising as a result of heavy rush of Amarnath pilgrims and the decision of the authorities to allow even unregistered pilgrims to undertake the Yatra.
The AHJLA said that as per the reports given by some pilgrims on their return to Jammu, after performing the yatra, the arrangements by the administration to conduct the yatra smoothly and orderly appear to have collapsed, due to unprecedented rush.
“It is reported that as many as 38000 pilgrims are simultaneously covering the journey via highly narrow Baltal route, on foot, ponies and dandies,” the association said, adding that the pilgrims were jostling with each other to get the passage, on the slippery narrow path. The administration’s decision to allow yatra even during night is wrought with danger consequences, in view of no rrangements of lights along the routes.” The hoteliers further observed that the SASB and the state administration have thrown to wind the recommendations of Natish Sain and Mukherjee committees’ reports, which were appointed after a major mishap with yatra had taken place in 1996, to allow a fixed number of pilgrims daily to undertake the yatra.
