| Smokers fined | | |

SRINAGAR, July 1 :
Anti Tobacco squad raided various shops selling cigarettes in the vicinity of Educational Institutions and imposed fine on them. The Squad also caught a Police Constable Abdul Rashid Wani, smoking in public at Nehru-park that too in uniform. SDPO Nehru park Ghulam Jeelani and SHO Nehru park Mohammed Shafi challaned the constable and imposed on him a fine of Rs 200 so as to set an example for others. The move has been appreciated by others. The Constable promised that he would never smoke again and that he would never let anyone smoke in public.
It may be mentioned that smoking in public places has been banned by Government and recently the High Court of J&K has also passed directions in this regard while hearing a PIL on the issue. The general public has also been advised to desist from smoking in public places.
