Five years passed, no relief for bereaved family

JAMMU, July 2: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) state secretary (Youth Wing) Manoj Kumar highlighted issue of an incident occurred in 2006, when under construction school building collapses, resulting on spot death of child of village Thanthu of tehsil Billawar.
While addressing the press conference, Manoj narrated the whole story of the incident. He told media persons that school building of Government Middle School Thanthu was under construction under plan of 2004-05. This construction work was going on with funding of BDO Block fund. On the fateful day October 1, 2006 (Ramnavmi) when Deep Kumar alias Deepu S/o Des Raj R/o Thanthu, a student of 8th class of same school was grazing his cattle nearby school building.
Manoj said when Deepu was taking rest behind the under construction wall of the said school, the pillar (beam) of the under construction wall collapses and fell on the head resulting onspot death of the boy.
JKNPP alleged that the death of said boy was due to negligence of the contractor and use of sub standard material for the construction of school building.
Then tehsildar of Billawar Puran Chand and other governmnet Officers after getting the information regarding incident reached on the sight of incident.
The officers concerned asked the deceased father not to lodge the complaint in police against government as well as contractor. The autopsy of the dead body of the deceased boy was not conducted. The government officers and contractor made assurance with the deceased father that a compensation of Rs 50,000 thousand/- (Rs Fifty Thousand) will be paid by the government to the bereaved family.
‘’But it is unfortunate that after five years has been passed, neither government nor contractor has given a single penny as compensation to the bereaved family which is a great injustice,” Manoj charged.
State Secretary (Youth) Manoj Kumar demanded that a thorough enquiry should be conducted in this regard.
The District administration should enquiry about the funds utilized for the construction of school and material used in building.
DC Kathua has assured JKNPP leaders deputation that DC Darbar will be organized on July 6 at Mandli of tehsil Billawar.
