Public representatives to be involved in PDS: Akhoon

TANGMARG, JULY 02- Minister for CA&PD and Transport Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon has said the Sarpanches and Panches would be involved in the distribution of essentials in their respective areas to ensure transparency in the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The Minister was speaking at a joint meeting of officers and public representatives convened to review the stock position of essentials in Baramulla district today at Tangmarg.
Minister for Agriculture Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir was also present in the meeting.
The Minister directed that the quantity of stock and rate lists of the commodities should be displayed properly on every Government Sale depots. He said the government is facing little shortage of ration as it gets ration as per the census of 2001, adding that there would be no scarcity of ration if we get ration as per recent census. The consumers should get sugar 700 grams per head, he said. He also directed the concerned for ensuring availability of essentials in view of holy month of Ramzan.
It was decided that K.oil would be delivered to the concerned Deputy Development Commissioners for its further distribution as per quota among dealers. He said that the ration to the Kandi belts should be supplied on priority as these places face shortage of ration as per their topography. He asked the CA&PD officials to notify the date and time for distribution of ration on the depots opened on internal basis. He also asked to rationalize the food circles for better monitoring and distribution of essentials.
Mr. Akhoon apprised that the government would construct ration stores in rural and far-off places in the state to store the ration provided availability of 4 kanals of land at these places.
Earlier, the Minister addressed a meeting of Sarpanches and Panches in Tangmarg.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla Mr. B A Bhat, Director, CA&PD, Kashmir Mr. Abdul Wahid Tak, officers from district administration, Gulmarg Development Authority, besides Sarpanches and Panches of the area were also present in the meeting.
