UDHAMPUR , JULY 02 - In order to have an effective check on the price of Essential commodities during ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, 2011, a team of Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Department and Legal Metrology conducted surprise check of the market in Udhampur town and its adjoining area last evening..
A flying squad under the supervision of Assistant Director CA&PD Department, Udhampur, S. Rajinder Singh, Inspector Municipal Council, Mr. Deepak Kumar, Tehsil Supply Officer, Udhampur, Mr. Vishnoo Dutt and Assistant Commissioner legal Metrology made an hectic checking in Udhampur town and realized fine to the tune of Rs. 12000/- from concerned defaulting traders who were found at fault during checking. Some of them has not displayed rate list in their commercial establishments, others were not possessing quality items of commodities. Establishments and utensils of rest of them were not found neat and clean, were fined. The fined so imposed was recovered on spot. About 68 establishments were checked and out of which 38 were challaned.
The local people lauded the exercise of checking and ensured their full cooperation in bringing the culprits on book to the administration during checking in future as well. Further the shopkeepers were warned not to get involved in any type of black marketing otherwise strict action under Essential Commodity Act would be initiated against them.
