Child labour, a major problem in Kathua: SOIL
7/2/2011 9:46:00 PM
Early Times Report
KATHUA, July 2: The Savior of Innocent Labour (SOIL) expressed its serious concerns over the growing rate of Child Labour in Kathua.
The SOIL observed that Kathua has become the hub of exploitation of the children of age below the fourteen by the big business houses, rich people, bureaucrats, and the children under fourteen can be seen as labour in various hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, industries and other shops openly.
The vice president of the SOIL, Ram Paul Sharma said that the growing number child labour has exposed the height of the effectiveness of the district administration and the claims made by the state government to control the child labour and the level of the functioning of labour department in Kathua.
SOIL blames squarely the district administration for flourishing the culture of child labour in Kathua because it is mostly occurring in the houses of bureaucrats, influential people of the Kathua and others in hotels restaurants and etc.
A student of class sixth resident of Kathua found being laborer at a cloth house at main market of Kathua at just 1000 per month and he told that his father is a laborer and suffering from a unknown disease for the last two years due to which source of income was totally collapsed he said that twice he attends the school also.
The labour department has never been seen to take any strong action against such social evil. In this context the SOIL urge the state government to take strong and result oriented steps to root out the menace of child labour from Kathua and save the future of the country.
