After wife died of burns, man ends life by jumping from hospital blding | | | JAMMU: Probably haunted by the feeling of guilt over allegedly harassing his wife, who today died of burns at the GMC hospital here, a man jumped from 3rd floor of the building and was killed on the spot. This is the second such incident in the capital city in the past one week. On June 25 last, Usha of Janipura committed suicide by jumping into Chenab river from Akhnoor bridge following a tiff with her husband Sunil Kumar, a businessman. An hour, or so later Sunil too jumped into the river from the same spot and died. This way, a trivial issue of some minor misunderstanding led to the couple's unnatural death. In today's incident too, Pooran Singh of Gadigarh committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the GMC hospital soon after he heard about the death of his wife Paramjit Kour due to burns in ward No 11. Paramjit was admitted to hospital on June 29 last with 80 per cent burns. While Pooran told cops that his wife's clothes caught fire when she was burning grass in their courtyard, police did not believe him and felt that he was trying to hide something. The woman's statement could not be recorded by police as due to her critical condition, she was not in a position to utter a single word, police sources said. Her parents, however, alleged that Pooran used to harass her under the influence of liquor. Sources said Pooran was under depression and today, when his wife succumbed to her burns, he jumped from the hospital's third floor and died. Both the bodies were shifted to the mortuary where post-mortem was conducted on them. Later, these were handed over to their family for last rites. Police had registered a case in this connection. |
