Two persons trapped in River Ravi rescued | | | KATHUA: In a rare act of bravery, an Army jawan without caring for his life rescued two persons from getting drowned in river Ravi after they got trapped in flash floods. According to police sources, two persons identified as Balwan Singh son of Prem Singh of Ghatti Tehsil and District Kathua and Jodh Singh son of Durga Singh Rajput Kanyari who had gone to fetch sand from river Ravi were trapped due to sudden flash flood. Police party including civil defense and fire services rushed on spot and day long efforts were made to rescue the trapped persons. Punjab administration was also requested to down the shutters of Madhopur Barrage for reducing the water level. Requisition of Helicopter was also given. In the meanwhile one L/NK Sham Raj Kishore of 126 TA BN presently posted in Akhnoor Sector who has came on leave only today without caring for his life rescued both the trapped persons one by one. His act of bravery was highly appreciated by the administration as well as general public. SSP Kathua J. L Sharma rewarded him with Rs. 2000 cash. Whereas IGP Jammu Zone Jammu Dilbag Singh-IPS on receipt of this news announced Rs. 5000 as reward in favour of brave soldier. An appreciation letter is also being sent to the Commanding Officer of the Lance Naik. Both the rescued persons are hail and hearty and were handed over to their parents. |
