Jammu Waiting For Opportunity | People of MP, Bihar reject outright the Congress | | Neha jammu, July 2: The Congress has no relevance as a party in the Kashmir Valley. The Congress has relevance only in Jammu province where the people have all along voted for the mainstream parties. And, it is here that the Congress is becoming unpopular by the day. The most important factor that has been working against the Congress in this province is the identification of the Jammu-based Congress ministers and leaders with the Kashmiri leadership. They have been behaving in a fashion that has only made the Dogras of Jammu province believe that their only duty is to endorse, respect and implement what the National Conference, which is leading the present government, does, suggests and says. The Dogras just cannot be questioned for the conclusion they have drawn. There is no doubt whatever that the Jammu-based Congress ministers, Congress legislators and Congress leaders have become uncritical supporters of the National Conference whose attitude towards the Dogras is highly hostile and provocative. It is this identification with the Kashmir-based, Kashmir-centric and pro-autonomy National Conference that has made the Jammu-based Congress ministers, Congress legislators and Congress leaders indolent and intellectually sterile. Since their duty doesn't lie beyond endorsing the National Conference policy or since they are not being allowed by AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her unimpressive and uninspiring son and prime minister-in-waiting Rahul Gandhi for reasons not really difficult to understand, they have stopped asserting. This has really worked against the Congress party in Jammu province, also called the land of Dogras. It needs to be emphasized that as the opponents of Kashmiri sub-nationalism as represented by the National Conference and similar other Kashmir-based political outfits and as opponents of the essentially Kashmir-centric policies as were evolved and implemented or as are being evolved and implemented by the ruling National Conference, it was incumbent upon the Jammu-based Congress ministers and Congress legislators in particular to resist the National Conference's ill-designed, ill-intentioned and unreasonable moves and provide a platform for the Jammu politics. Besides, it was also incumbent upon them to evolve a plan that could at least compete with what the National Conference represents and offer an alternative to what the National Conference had done in the past and continues to do even today, but they miserably failed, thus leaving the suppressed, oppressed and discriminated against Dogras in the lurch or to the care of God or anarchy. The unwillingness on the part of the Jammu-based Congress leadership to strike out a new path for itself is astonishing. And, there are reasons to believe that the Jammu-based Congress leadership would not change or reform itself taking into consideration the write on the wall in Jammu province. The truth, in short, is that the Jammu-based Congress leadership has no attractive wares of its own to put on the Jammu's political market for sale. For this they will have to pay the price of unpopularity and face political extinction as has been happening in the states like Bihar, MP, UP, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, even Kerala, Uttranchal, Jharkhand and other states, including Maharashtra where the Congress and the NCP are face to face with each other, notwithstanding the fact that both are ruling the state for quite sometime now.
