11/26/2006 10:21:24 PM

Jammu, NOV 26
Going ahead with its drive against smugglers, Forest Protection Force successfully pre-empted an attempt to smuggle out 214 Resin filled tins (about 40 qtls.) worth value of Rs. 1.25 lakh in the open market from the Ramkote Forests on November 23.
Minister of Forests Qazi Afzal while appreciating the efforts made by Forest Protection Force in preventing the smuggling of such precious forest produce said that all possible measures would be taken to preserve and conserve forest from pouching, smuggling and other related activities in future as well.
On the basis of intelligence inputs gathered by FPF that some unscrupulous elements may smuggle out the resin outside the state, special team headed by Assistant Director Billawar was deployed under the supervision of Deputy Director Billawar for the purpose. The team then laid its hands and seized the forest produce which was dumped at two spots namely Ambika Temple and Amara village in Ramkote Forest area.
The Minister deputed a team of senior officers comprising of Director FPF Mr. Vinod Ranjan, CCF Jammu Mr. Abhay Kumar and Joint Director FPF Jammu Mr. Roshan Jaggi for first hand report on the matter which inspected the seized produce on November, 25. Director FPF gave instructions for expediting the enquiry so that accused are brought to book. While lauding the timely action of FPF personnel which resulted in preventing loss to the Government exchequer, Director reiterated the directions to further intensify the operations against forest offenders.
As per FPF sources, special vigil is being maintained by FPF teams against any such attempt in other vulnerable areas like Rajouri, Nowshera, Ramnagar and Udhampur forests.
