EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 03: Natrang stages a Dogri Comedy Play ‘What is This’ at its Studio Theatre in Sunday Theatre series. The play has been written by Late Kuldeep Singh Jindraia and directed by Neeraj Kant. The play was a tribute to a Dogri playwright and was really a treat to watch. Commenting on today’s performance, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that this has been the prime focus of Natrang to showcase the rarest works of Dogri on stage and today’s show was a living example of Natrang’s initiative of promoting Dogri theatre.

In ‘What is This’ ‘Timbo’ is ‘Jambar’s’ father but is more desperate to get married than his son who though stammers while talking but is of marriageable age. Whatever proposal of marriage comes to their home for ‘Jambar’, his father tries to divert it towards him. ‘Shonku’ was ready to get his daughter married to ‘Jambar’ but ‘Timbo’ pressurizes and blackmails him that if he does not marry his daughter to him, he has to pay back all the debt taken from him in a single go, he not even realized that he was old enough to marry that girl. Being threatened, ‘Shonku’ was worried but some of his well wishers made a plan to teach a lesson to ‘Timbo’. He cleverly agrees to ‘Timbo’s’ request but just for a false sake and finally ditched him on the day of marriage when ‘Timbo’ got scolding from the villagers for his greedy and selfish act. Even his own son laughed at his condition. Thus, ‘Timbo’ faced a very embracing situation and got dealt aptly for his highly irrational fantasy. In a very comical and satirical manner, play presented a very sensitive topic which was well received and appreciated by the audience.

Mohit Sharma as ‘Timbo’ exhibited his versatility. Rohit Verma as ‘ Jambar’ and Rahul Singh as ‘Dharmu’ were also not far behind in showcasing their acting skills. Others who complemented the performance include Pawan Verma as ‘Sarpanch’, Dimple Sharma as ‘Shonku’, Vinay Manhas as ‘Pandit’ and Vishal Sharma, Syed Fardeen and Shekher Sharma as ‘Villagers’. Lights were operated by Neeraj Kant. Sumeet Sharma coordinated the show and also did the presentations.
