Full marks to Telangana Congress leadership | Jammu Congress Leadership | | NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 3: Compare the Telangana leadership with the Congress ministers and Congress legislators hailing from Jammu province and see for yourself the difference. You simply cannot compare the Telangana Congress leadership with the Jammu Congress leadership. In fact, the two are not comparable. The Jammu-based Congress ministers and legislators are made of a different stuff. They are not even prepared to open their mouth. They are indifferent to the Jammu cause. They are indifferent even to the constituencies they represent in the Assembly and the Lok Sabha. They have thrown in their lot with the Kashmiri leadership whose single-point agenda is to loot and fleece the people of Jammu province and exploit, humiliate and marginalize them. So much so that the Jammu-based Congress ministers and legislators have been giving their unstinted and unqualified support to the Kashmir-based and Kashmir-centric political party, National Conference. The National Conference-led government has been perpetrating injustice after injustice on the people of Jammu province and the Jammu-based Congress ministers and legislators are a party to this policy of discrimination. They did not open their mouth even when the chief minister persuaded the union government to create an environment that would facilitate the withdrawal of the March 25 order under which the Dogras of Jammu were to obtain Dogra certificates. The order was withdrawn on April 28 much to chagrin of the Dogras. It was the Jammu-based Congress minister who proposed and it was the chief minister who disposed. The chief minister disposed because Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq wanted him to dispose. And, when the chief minister disposed, the Jammu-based Congress minister did not oppose, notwithstanding the fact that he had declared just a few days before that he would not withdraw the order. One can cite here innumerable instances to prove that the National Conference is exploiting the people of Jammu province with the full backing of the Jammu-based Congress ministers and legislators. It is this negative or anti-Jammu attitude of the Jammu-based Congress ministers and legislators that has jeopardized the legitimate interests of the people of the province and rendered them unreal for all practical purposes. It's no wonder then that the people of Jammu province are dismissing the Congress ministers and Congress legislators as the "representatives of Kashmir and selfish to the core" and dismissing with contempt the Congress party as the "B-team of the ruling National Conference." Their attitude towards other ministers and legislators belonging to the Jammu province is no different. In fact, they hold the view that all the Jammu-based legislators, without any exception, have "sold their conscience and self-respect for the sake of personal power and profit." Theirs' are extreme views, but it is their representatives who have forced them to think in negative terms. The people of Jammu province want the Jammu leadership to replicate Telangana but the latter, instead of replicating Telangana here in this province, are playing into the hands of the Congress high command and the National Conference and defending the anti-Jammu policies by saying that the state government is doing all that it could do to meet the people's aspirations. It is doubtful if the Jammu Congress leadership would ever imitate Telangana leadership and protect and advance the genuine cause of Jammu. What about Telangana leadership? 12 Congress MPs and 50 Congress MLAs hailing from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh (AP) have decided to quit the Lok Sabha and the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday, July 4. The Congress ministers from the region will also resign the same day. They told Union Health Minister and in-charge AP Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad that their decision is final and that they would surely quit in case their demand for separate Telangana state is not conceded. They have rejected outright his suggestion that they should not "precipitate" matters. Azad was there in Hyderabad two days ago to take part in a convention organized by Christian Dalits. Legislators belonging to the main opposition party in the state, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will also resign the same day. They have declared that they cannot go against the wishes of the people of the region. The fact of the matter is that almost all the legislators belonging to this region have made common cause with those demanding bifurcation of AP and establishment of Telangana state, notwithstanding the fact that the present chief minister also belongs to the Telangana region. The upshot of their whole argument has been that "we are here not for posts but for people of Telangana." As for the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), which has been spearheading the movement for separate state, it has decided to intensify its campaign by organizing "cook and eat" protests on roads across Telangana on July 10 and asked "all public representatives to quit mounting pressure on the central government." This is the kind of leadership Telangana region has produced. Hats off to them. They deserve kudos for their stand and for their total identification with the cause of the region. That they have decided to quit from their positions for the sake of the protesting people of the region shows the extent to which are committed to protecting and promoting the cause of the people who voted for them in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. One thing is clear: The Jammu-based Congress leadership is digging its own grave in this province by dancing to the tunes of their Kashmiri masters. |
