23 traders booked for violation of norms | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 4 – A team of officers of Legal Metrology, CAPD and Transport department, assisted by police conducted extensive market checking in bus stand and B. C. Road and booked 23 establishments for overcharging and other offences. The team led by Additional Commissioner, Jammu inspected dhabas, general stores, provision stores, dry fruit shops, fruit shops/ vendors and traders dealing with imported items. About 23 offenders were booked under various provisions of laws of Legal Metrology and Essential Commodity Act for overcharging, use of domestic gas cylinders for commercial purpose, not displaying rate list and selling goods without declaring mandatory declarations like MRP, PKD, net weight, complete address of manufacturer/packer alongwith consumer help line number. All the domestic gas cylinders and imported deceptive items were seized. The team of officers issued instruction to the president of traders association bus stand to ensure that all the traders should be warned to sell only standard goods to the consumers. The team also conducted extensive checking of Auto rickshaws at BC road and canal head and five auto rickshaws were booked for charging exorbitant rates from the commuters. The team also issued directions to the auto rickshaw drivers to charge the far according to the rates fixed by the transport authority which is Rs.12 for 1st km and Rs.9 for subsequent kms. Meanwhile, the special squad during its two day drive along National Highway booked 37 offenders for violating various provisions of laws enacted to protect the consumer interest and an amount of Rs.45400 was recovered as fine from the defaulters. The traders were warned to desist from the practice of deceiving the pilgrims failing which strict action will be taken against them under law.
