JMC cleans nullahs, to prevent flooding of localities during monsoon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 4: As monsoon showers leave a warning at doors of city residents and the impending rainy season brings in worries of chocked drains, piling up heaps of garbage and potholed roads, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is trying its best to keep the nallahs clean, to prevent flooding. Officials said that greater emphasis is being given to desilting of the major drains so that they don’t become flooded with the expected rainfall in coming weeks. JMC officials said that the cleaning process of the city nallahs was started by the JMC on June 11. Under this cleaning scheme many nallahs of the city including nallah at Railway Road near Transit Camp, Durga Nagar, Tallab Tillo, Nanak Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Muthi, Roop Nagar, Paloura, Channi Himat, Gangyal, Peer Kho, Krishna Nagar, Ambphalla, Digiana, Shastri Nagar, Rampura, Dashmesh Nagar have been cleaned up. When contacted JMC official Kulwant Chib said that they have already desilted and cleaned all the nallahs upto the requirement for the ongoing monsoons, now it’s the duty of the people to make it as they are. He added that they have done their work due to the encroachment in the nallah areas many nallahs have been reduced from their needed size which is causing the destruction in the areas nearby. He also said that they are there to listen to any grievance of the people and will try to remove the difficulties as soon as they could do. However many of the people complain that not enough has been done to prevent flooding and garbage and polythene continues to float in these bodies. “Till strict measures are not taken against the people, till then none of the measures could success to prevent flooding”, said ex-corporator.
