Omar gives new dimension to coalition culture | Reaches out to grass root Congress workers | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 4: In his ground-breaking initiative to strengthen the coalition between National Conference and Congress for the larger interests of the State and its people, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday reached out the grass root Congress workers and heard their views at a meeting he called here for the purpose this afternoon. The initiative, first in the coalition history of the State, is aimed at nurturing coalition dharma at grass roots and strengthening the alliance at all levels. The Chief Minister by this programme started the process of having regular interaction with the Congress workers at district level to ascertain their view points for improving the bonds of coalition and helping successful implementations of development works all across the State. Speaking in today’s meeting, he held with the office bearers and prominent activists of Congress from Kupwara and Baramulla districts, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for joint endeavouring by National Conference and Congress to mitigate the difficulties of people on development front. “Both the parties believe in high principals of secularism and democracy and are staunch supporters of peace and development in the State”, he said and emphasized on unified efforts by the workers of both the parties to strengthen these principals. The Chief Minister said that harmony in the functioning of both the parties is imperative to improve governance and reach out to the people in all areas. “You are the eyes and ears of the government and your involvement in the implementation of development works, monitoring of schemes and expanding the orbit of development to every nook and corner of the State is essential”, he said. Omar Abdullah said that like in the interaction meetings with National Conference workers, he intends to listen to the views of Congress rank and file in similar meetings. “The regular interaction meetings would be organized for the purpose”, he said assuring the Congress workers that their reasonable suggestions for the peace and development of the State would be given due weightage. Vice President JKPCC, Ghulam Nabi Monga, General Secretary, PCC, Qazi Mehboob Ellahi, President Youth Congress Shoaib Nabi Lone, General Secretary Mahila Congress Shameema Sopori and other party activists were present in the meeting.
