EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 4:
Maintaining that the State under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is marching fast towards a golden era of development and prosperity, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr A. R. Rather today said focus of the planning process is to ensure uniform development and equity to all the three regions of the State.
“It is our endeavour to provide all the basic facilities to the rural populace especially hitherto neglected areas at par with urban people”, Mr Rather said while addressing a mammoth public gathering, after laying foundation stone of Rs 3.13 crore Muqam-Hangoo road in Charar-i-Sharief constituency today. The 5 km long road scheduled to be completed within 18 months will connect about 10 villages benefitting 40,000 souls. About Rs 4 crore would be expended on macadamization of the road in phase-II, Mr Rather added
Rather said building a vast network of roads in inaccessible areas under PMGSY has revolutionized the communication system especially in rural areas, which is bound to transform the socio economic profile there.
“With a view to give fillip to trade and economics in the State in a big way, all the unconnected villages and hamlets are being linked with main trunk roads”, Rather said adding that the State is on the threshold of the massive development revolution
Responding to the demands of the people, Rather said a comprehensive road project costing Rs 5 crore has been prepared to upgrade and macadamize roads in Branwar, Neego, Jabbar, Zilchidari, adding that a modern bridge at a cost of Rs 2 crore would be constructed in Qanoon Gopora for which DPR has already been formulated.
The Minister also sought cooperation of the people in conserving power energy, adding that Rs 25,000 crore is being expended on import of electricity annually.
Earlier, the Minister inspected under construction Wathoora bridge on Srinagar-Charar-i-Sharief road and expressed his dismay over the slow pace of work. He instructed the engineers of ERA to expedite the work on the bridge as people are facing great hardship.
