Doctors' alleged failure to diagnose woman, son lead to their death, relatives protest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 4: The death of a woman and her young son due to the alleged failure of government medical college hospital (GMCH) doctors today triggered protests by their relatives. Tripta Devi (50), wife of Sunil Kumar of Ganganagar, Bantalab, and her son Hemant Kumar (25) were admitted to the government hospital, Sarwal, about two days back after they complained of pain in stomach. From the Sarwal hospital, they were referred to the GMCH where Tripta died Sunday at about 7 pm and Hemant at about 1 am. While the woman worked with BSNL, her son was said to be a physiotherapist. Angered by the deaths, the family members and their relatives today held a strong demonstration at the hospital amidst raising of slogans against doctors, its administration and the superintendent. They alleged that the mother-son duo died only because the doctors failed to find out the nature of the disease they were suffering from. They also alleged that some doctors had demanded Rs 40,000 from them for the critical care ambulance to shift Tripta and Hemant to Chandigarh for advanced treatment. Though they were later pacificed by police, they urged the authorities concerned to hold a probe into the matter and punish the guilty doctors. After the post-mortem was done on the bodies, the family members and the relatives took them home at Ganganagar and left the hospital premises. Police had registered a case in this connection and initiated inquest proceedings. |
