| Amarnath yatra resumes, but chaos continues to prevail in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 4: With lull in the rainfall, administration today allowed pilgrim towards Amarnath cave shrine from Pahalgam and Baltal after remaining suspended for two days due to inclement weather. Officials said that nearly 20,000 pilgrims left the base camp in Kashmir to pay obeisance at holy Cave shrine.
Meanwhile, yatra also resumed from the Jammu base camp as a fresh batch of 6,564 pilgrims left for the cave shrine from here. With Monday's batch, as many as 15,311 pilgrims have left Bhagwati Nagar base camp for their onward journey to Amarnath cave shrine
Official sources said that so far 91,504 pilgrims have visited the 3,880 metre high cave shrine to pay obeisance to the naturally formed ice lingam considered to be the edifice of lord Shiva.
Taking tough measures against the unregistered Yatris, administration continued to scan the vehicles moving towards Kashmir valley on highway. Officials said clear directions have been passed to the police to stop any of the pilgrims are trying to move towards valley without mandatory registration.
"The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has decided not to allow any unregistered pilgrims from today due to unprecedented rush," he added.
Meanwhile thousands of Amarnath pilgrims stuck at the base camps of Jammu are upset over the lack of lodging facilities at the state Yatri Bhawan and are complaining about unhygienic conditions at temporary sheds. The uncertainty over their yatra plan is also proving a costly affair.
Kamlesh Gupta said that due to the descendent of unregistered pilgrims, the registered pilgrims have to face the difficulties. He added that the authorities have to keep a pre check on these pilgrims so that this suspension of the yatra should not become a problem for them.
"The bad weather as well as poor yatra arrangement has forced us to stay on in a hotel. We are now forced to shell out extra money and we have a limited budget," said Mukesh Kakkar from Punjab.
Due to the suspending of the yatra about 60,000 pilgrims were stranded at various base camps including Baltal, Sheshnag, Pajtarni and Nunwan. Around 1,000 vehicles, some carrying pilgrims on way to Vaishno Devi were also stranded because of heavy rush of Amarnath pilgrim vehicles.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, R.K. Goyal, the reports reaching the Shrine Board office by 12 noon today, the movement of the Yatris had proceeded satisfactorily on both the tracks. He added that the movement of Yatris is being continuously monitored in view of the extremely uncertain weather in the past few days in the entire Yatra area.
Meanwhile, the CEO has reiterated his appeal to all those who intend to undertake the pilgrimage to the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji to complete the necessary registration formalities and obtain a Yatra Permit before embarking on the pilgrimage both to avoid facing inconvenience on arrival in the State as well as causing inconvenience to others who are registered pilgrims. |
