Senior KP leaders had advised CM against attending YAIKS convention | | | EARLY TIMES Report JAMMU, July 4: Though chief minister and his cabinet colleagues were conspicuous by their absence at a one day convention of Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) at K K Resorts on July 1, but the reason to abstain from convention by Omar Abdullah and some of his Cabinet colleagues was on the insistence of some senior Kashmiri Pandit leaders. According to high placed sources senior KP leaders made last minute effort in approaching Abdullah , Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister, Raman Bhalla and Education Minister, Peerzada Mohammed Syed and instead them not to attend the convention as the same was a programme of an individual organization and not the entire community. The sources said besides the senior KP leaders a memorandum was also submitted to Chief minister which was signed by 14 Apex committee members including the leaders of NC and Congress who expressed their unwillingness against the gracing of convention by Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues as the YAIKS was not representing the entire community. Sources said fearing opposition from the community this forced the Chief minister and his Cabinet colleagues to cancel the programme at eleventh hour. The KP leaders in their memorandum had made it clear to Chief Minister that a joint programme for his felicitation for putting the PM's employment package into motion will be organized by entire community and by holding such an convention by an individual organization will send wrong signals. Sources said some KP leaders also approached the Apex committee members opposing the holding of such a convention at this juncture and terming the YAIKS decision a sell out they said this way the organization was trying the negate the good work done by the KP leadership during last 21 years of turmoil Sources said while taking on AIKS head on the leaders of some front line KP organization said that it was because of the efforts of the leadership that community managed to get quota for displaced students in various professional colleges all over India. This quota has not come from air but it was the community leadership led by senior KP leader Amarnath Vaishnavi who strongly pleaded the case of community youth before the Shiv Sena supremo Balthakeray and BJP senior leader Gopi Nath Munde in Maharastra in 1990 and later agreed to sanction one seat in each stream in every year and later the other states of the country also followed the suit. This way 4000 to 5000 students of community are absorbed in various professional courses all over India every year and the people who claim to be so called champions of youth are forgetting this great contribution. Had this quota not been there the displaced people would have been left with no alternative except begging as the successive state government continued to adopt a rigid attitude towards the community and its problems, the leaders of these organizations have reportedly told the Apex committee members. They also informed the Apex members not get swayed by Government employment package as since its announcement in 2007 only 1700 KP youth were provided jobs while the package was for six thousand youth. So will the community surrender its all benefits for these 1700 jobs as some kith and kin of these so called youth leaders managed to get jobs under this package so they are misleading the entire community for the same. Warning against these self styled leaders the KP organizations have cautioned the community not to get mislead by this false propaganda as any decision on return taken in haste will prove counter productive for the entire community. |
