| Last batch of National Heritage Trek Expedition 2011 flagged off | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, July 5:
National Heritage Trek Expedition 2011 concluded today with the last batch of 17 trekkers jointly flagged off by National Chairman Youth Hostels of Association of India (YHAI), Dr. Harish K. Sexena and National President YHAI, Mr. M.S. Pandit. A total of 1137 trekkers including 1077 from Jammu and Kashmir state, 55 National and 03 international trekkers successfully completed the expedition. This trekking expedition was organized in close collaboration with Directorate of Education, Directorate of Tourism Jammu, District Administration and Patnitop Developmental Authority.
All the trekkers have visited Krimchi Temples, the protected heritage monument where the expert of the Archaeological Survey of India educated them about the Heritage sites in Jammu and Kashmir State and there importance on our life vis-à-vis our traditions, culture and history. The trekkers have been educated about the flora and fauna and the wild life of the region, the creation and the behavior of the earth through the earth show prepared by President YHAI, Mr. M.S. Pandit and about the medicinal plants, herbs etc during the trekking. It may be recalled at this occasion that the trekking programme were initially started in Jammu region in Kistwar district about 35 year ago by the concerted efforts of M.S Pandit who was then the District Development Commissioner Doda and Dr. Harish K. Sexena which continue unabated for over 15 years lest it fell victim to the militancy in the area. It is now again with their efforts and that of State Chairman YHAI J&K Branch, Mr. S.P Verma that the National Heritage Trek has caught the eye of the national and international trekkers and has brought the name of Udhampur on the international map of adventure tourism destinations.
On the conclusion of 4th National Heritage Trek, National President, YHAI, also announce the launch of 5th national Heritage Trek from April 14, 2012.Among others, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur , Rajinder Singh, State Chairman YHAI J&K Branch, S.P Verma, State Director Adventure Promotion YHAI, J&K Branch, K.K Gandotra were present on the occasion. |
