| Azad pays tributes to late Dogra | | | Jammu, Nov 26 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad paid glowing homage to late Mr. Girdhari Lal Dogra on his 19th death anniversary at a function organized here today. Mr. Azad said that late Mr. Dogra was a great secular leader who devoted his entire life in the service of people and upliftment of under-privileged and poorer sections of society irrespective of their caste, region or religion. “It is because of these qualities people always remember and respect him”, he said. Chief Minister said that best way to pay homage to late Mr. Dogra would be to carry forward his principles and realize the goal of making Jammu and Kashmir a developed and prosperous state. Recalling his long association with Mr. Dogra, Mr. Azad said that late Dogra was an experienced and upright political leader from whom one could learn a lot. He said the humility and simplicity of Mr. Dogra was unique and his service to people was his only concern. Chief Minister said that Government Degree College Hiranagar has been named after Mr. Girdhari Lal Dogra and lauded the efforts of Mrs. Sangeeta, daughter of late Mr. Dogra, in setting up a trust which has decided to provide monetary assistance to poor students for pursuing their education. He said the trust will provide Rs 500 per month to 10 girl students of Hiranagar area for pursuing their education next year, adding that as soon as more funds will become available with the trust, it would provide this assistance to the students of other areas of the state as well. Mr. Azad also laid a wreath at the statue of Mr. Dogra. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma recalling his long association with Mr. Dogra described him as his mentor and guru. He said it was Mr. Dogra who brought him into politics. Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak and Minister of State for Revenue Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz also paid tributes to Mr. Dogra on the occasion. Legislators Mr. Raman Bhalla and Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Corporators, senior political leaders, family members of Mr. Dogra and prominent citizens were present.
