Gurupurb celebrated with religious fervour across state | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 5: The birth anniversary of sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind ji was celebrated across the state with traditional fervour and gaiety. The main function to commemorate the occasion was organised in the city by District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu at Gurdwara Chatti Pathshai Talab Tilo here.Thousands of Sikh devotees thronged the venue of main function from city and other surrounding areas.
The function started with Shabad Kirtan which was recited by the local Ragi Jatha of Jammu in coordination with Amandeep Singh Delhi Wale, Bhai Sharanjeet Singh, Bhai Gurfateh Jalandhar Wale. Gurbachan Singh who was the main paracharak of the function highlighted the history of tGuru Hargobind Singh ji who put two words Miri and Piri as the symbols of spirituality and power, during his installation as 6th Guru. Singh also threw light on various battles fought and won by the sixth Guru. He told the gathering that the Guru waged war against the then Mughal ruler Jehangir for achieving the fundamental rights. The Parcharak said that Guru ji also became the ‘Bandichhod Data’ when he got released from the Gwalior fort, with 52 other kings who were detained by Jehangir. On the occasion, a Guru Ka Lanagar was also served among the devotees. The DGPC members including Dalip Singh (President), Attar Singh (Cashier), Manjit Singh (Secretary) and others were present on the occasion. Meanwhile, at Srinagar Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today visited the Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi, Kathidarwaza on the occasion of Gurupurb. He paid obeisance there and prayed for peace and prosperity of the State. The grand function was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi, Kathidarwaza where the religious sermons and shabad-kirtan were performed. Bhalla greeted the people, particularly Sikh Community on this auspicious occasion. While paying tributes to great Guru on his 416th birth anniversary, Bhalla asked people to follow the teachings of Guru Ji which are always relevant for maintaining brotherhood, peace and tranquility. President Shriomani Parbandak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar also attended the function and threw light on the life of the great Guru.
