Congress conducts itself in role of opposition, says Dalits getting raw deal | Political punch against opponent but exposes coalition 'complacency' | | Saroj Razdan EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 5: Despite being a major ally in the coalition , Congress virtually conducted itself in the role of opposition by raking up a highly sensitive and serious issue- that dalits and weaker section communities are getting a raw deal in Ramnagar constituency at the hands of local administration. The allegation is that latter is pushing SC and ST populations to wall under the political pressure.Concern and sympathetic factor notwithstanding, Congress' political punch is actually against the Panthers Party MLA, on whose directions the weaker sections are being ignored on development front. In what can be seen as a bold blow from a youth leader, RS Pathania senior vice president Pradesh Youth Congress today not only dared to take up cudgels against the political opponent namd MLA of Ramnagar Harsh Dev but also jolted the administration of his own coalition government by throwing a sort of open challenge on the scenario prevailing in the constituency in context of 'step motherly' treatment meted out to people of SC and ST community. Crying foul , Pathania even asked the coalition to get the allegations of brazen discrimination meted out to these communities on the basis of caste and political considerations. Though he has highlighted the scenario of Laddana and Chor Panjian- the two villages where the inhabitants belonging to weaker and backward sections have been brutely deprived of the facilities of elctricfication by the PDD, the allegations on similar grounds in other fields too have been made to substantiate his point. So far so good. In capacity of a politician , the Youth Congress leader has made an effort to make a loud call as to what is happening on ground in Ramnagar with the Dalits. But the revelations made by him have the undercurrent of political connotations. It is clearly a collision course against J&K Panthers Party MLA, who is a fiery politican always vocal about the issues pertaining to people, the Youth Congress leader while making these diagnostic projections about sorry state of affairs has accused that SCs and STs are being victimised , teased and taunted on every fora . What makes these accusations and allegations take an acute turn is the fact the Congress is raising fingers over a flawed system in planning which is loaded with inherent handicaps and discrepancies, on account of which Dalits remain deprived of even Centrally sponsored schemes which are meant for them only. The question here arises that local MLA may be doing all this on political considerations simply because dalits do not make his vote bank but what prevents the Congress as major ally of coalition in previous and and in existing coalition regimes take corrective measures and provide some releif and remedy to suffering communities. Why are Congress minsiters who form a sizable number in the cabinet silent and reticent despite knowing and having been conveyed about the alleged discrminatory treatment with Dalits......? Why do they shy away from even directing the concerned departments and adminsitration in general to take corrective steps....? Is this policy as a matter of assumed assessment of political ground in the constituency or politics of 'convenience ,' so as to avoid any criticism and harsh backlash in terms of a 'flawed' functioning at other fronts from a vocal politician...? Doesn't this amount to expolitation of Dalits by both...? |
