| PDP terms demand on Self -Rule as ridiculous | | | Jammu,Nov 26 Though PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeeds home coming is still far away but party machinery is already gearing up for the grand reception in both Jammu and Srinagar on his return from New York. Sayeed is expected to return to India on December 2 and in Jammu on December 16. According to party sources, soon after his arrival in India, PDP leader plans to discuss the self-rule idea with the Government of India in order to share his experience and give them the feedback he gathered during his stay in New York during the UN General Assembly meet and afterwards in private meetings and seminars in support of his self-rule agenda. Party sources said that the Committee constituted by the PDP for preparing the document on self-rule is also likely to complete the task by the time the Mufti Sayeed reaches here in Jammu. He said if required the committee is likely to meet here to give final shape to the document in consultation with the party patron. The party leadership has also ridiculed the National Conference demand for tabling the self-rule idea in the form of a resolution in the Assembly. The main idea behind this demand, informed sources said, was to see the resolution on self-rule get defeated because in the absence of the support of the congress the PDP cannot muster a two-third majority for seeing the resolution adopted. PDP General Secretary,Mr Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, said here today “the National Conference demand is ridiculous.”He said “when the document is ready we shall discuss it with the centre so that a consensus was evolved on the issue.”He added “if the centre approved our idea we could table it in the Assembly.” In reply to a question Mr Bhat wanted to know from the National Conference leadership about the fate of the resolution on greater autonomy which had been adopted by the State Legislature in 2000.He said “mere adoption of any idea for the settlement of the Kashmir issue on the floor of the Assembly was not enough for a successful implementation of the idea.” The PDP leader said that “we have to carry all those who matter and for this we are not in a hurry” adding that the PDP “does not believe in the politics of exploitation.” He referred to the current visit of Mufti Mohd. Sayeed to America and said that the “favourable response he got to the self-rule idea during discussions with intellectuals and political leaders of various hues, including those from Kashmir and Pakistan, besides those from occupied Kashmir, indicated that many had been impressed by the idea.” |
