Contractual lecturers strike continues, students suffer in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 6: Thousands of students continued to suffer in the Kashmir valley, where contractual lecturers are on strike in support of their demands since June 27. The students had to face similar situation last year also after several parts of Valley witnessed violence, arson, stone pelting incidents and killings of about 120 people. However, when the situation is normal, the lecturers went on strike, affecting the students, who are coming from different far flung and remote areas to different colleges in the towns and Srinagar. About 650 contractual lecturers have been on indefinite strike since June 27, demanding revocation of the nomenclature, terming them academic arrangement lecturers and teaching assistants instead of contractual lecturers, monthly stipends equivalent to the basic salary of the post on which they are serving and end to new norm of six classes per day.
