Shivlingam melting due to mismanagement, alleges Amarnath pilgrims
7/6/2011 10:43:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 6:
With an unprecedented and heavy rush of pilgrims thronging the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, the natural Ice lingam inside the Sanctum Sanctorum has started to deplete.
The huge rush of Yatris is the result of complete ‘mismanagement’ by the authorities, who were unable to control the movement of pilgrims particularly the unregistered ones.
Against the total 2.52 lakh pilgrims who obtained yatra permit for undertaking the pilgrimage, 1.3 lakh, mostly unregistered, had darshan of the holy Shivlingam during the first four days, resulting in melting of ice-Lingam.
The,
A group of pilgrims, who paid obeisance at the holy abode of Lord Shiva after obtaining valid permit while talking to Early Times alleged that the Shivlingam has melted by about six feets in the first week of the yatra.
They maintained that there was hardly any screening of yatra slips by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) or security force personnel deployed at the base camp or enroute.
"It is nothing but total mismanagement as there was lack of coordination among SASB officials, security forces, police and state government officials, they said.
“Such a scenario has compounded the problems leading to utter chaos at the cave shrine. The presence of large number of devotees near the cave shrine has affected the size of Icelingam as accumulation of human heat is melting it at a rapid pace,” the pilgrims added.
They said if the authorities failed to check the flow of unregistered pilgrims, the Shivlingam will melt soon completely and there will be nothing for those who officially registered themselves and waited for their turn on due date.
Concerned over the rush of pilgrims, Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the SASB said the registration for the yatris had commenced on May 10 this year through as many as 149 Bank branches located across the country and e-registration system.
However, a large number of yatris had arrived without securing registration despite the SASB's repeated requests impressing upon the intending yatris to secure a ''Yatra Permit'' and only thereafter proceed for yatra strictly as per the date and route specified on their registration to avoid any inconvenience to them on arrival in the state.
