Pilot project on child rights discussed with CS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 6: Chairperson, National Commission for Child Protection Dr Shantha Sinha today called on Chief Secretary Madhav Lal here and discussed with him implementation of Pilot Project on protection of child rights in Jammu and Kashmir through social mobilisation Giving details of project, Dr Shantha Sinha said district administration in association with village representatives and youth volunteers could mobilize the community towards rights of children. This, she said will subsequently help to evolve a process for ensuring full entitlements to children with focus on education, adding that persons showing commitment for the cause would be selected as nodal officers and resource persons and paid honorarium The meeting was told that during field visits to various educational zones of District Bandipora and Kupwara it was observed that poverty, inadequate school infrastructure and civil unrest have resulted in increased school dropout rate. The trend needs to be stopped through Government intervention. Responding to the proposal the Chief Secretary assured full support to the endeavour, observing that the implementation of the project will go a long way in safeguarding rights of children and developing them as a better human resource. Madhav Lal, however, suggested synchronizing craft and school education of the children belonging to the traditional handicraft households to make them productive educated citizens. He said the services of education volunteers already engaged in education department could be utilized towards achieving the desirable results.
