JPVM demands registration of Amarnath pilgrims at Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 6: Demanding that permission for Amarnath yatra to unregistered devotees should be stopped, Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM) today said the ongoing registration of pilgrims should be made at the base camp here. "The permission to allow unregistered pilgrims to perform the yatra should be strictly stopped," JPVM chairman Ravi Mahajan told reporters. JPVM is an umbrella body of 22 tourism and pilgrimage related-trade organisations. The decision not to allow unregistered pilgrims to undertake the yatra should be widely publicised through electronic and print media all over the country, he said. "We further ask the government that registration of pilgrims should be made only at Jammu to avoid heavy rush of registration seekers in Srinagar, Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in the Kashmir Valley," Mahajan said. "No yatri should be allowed to undertake the yatra out of turn and dates of registration. The Amarnath yatra should be strictly monitored," he said. While appreciating the fool-proof security measures for pilgrims, he demanded that all the arrangement and facilities for the yatris should be provided at the Jammu Yatri Niwas here. The JPVM has also suggested that empty trucks and goods carriers on return journey from Srinagar should be routed via Mughal Road to avoid traffic jams on the Jammu- Srinagar National Highway.
