ASI also in process to change names of religious places in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 6: The process of eliminating remaining symbols of Kashmir's tradition is on in Valley and in addition to the State Government and the separatists the central Government agencies are also contributing a lot in this process. After the hounding out of over four lakh Kashmiri Pandits who were the indigenous people of Valley in 1989-90 by radical forces, the process of eliminating the symbols of their culture and tradition also started in Valley after the radical forces in connivance with authorities managed to change the names of some hill locks and religious places of Hindus by distorting facts of history. According to sources the process was not confined to radical elements and State Government, but also the Central Government agencies were also involved in this process. Citing an example sources said a board has been installed at historical Hari Parbhat hill lock in down town Srinagar city of Kashmir Valley by Archeological Survey of India (ASI) which names the Hill as Kohimaran instead of its traditional name Hariparbhat or Chakreshwar. This hill lock is abode of Godess Sharika (Shakti) and has a Shri yantra inscribed on a rock which dates back to the inception of Kashmir. It is said that Srinagar city whose name has also been changed by the Government and the radical forces as Shehar Khas was originally named on the sri yantra and the hill locks history dates back to prehistoric period when Lord Shiva threw ashes of Godess Sati in Satisar at this place where a hill lock emerged from water afterwards and the place became famous as Shakti and Sidh peetha which was the presiding deity of Kashmir. The Kashmiri Pandit and other Hindu organizations have taken serious exception to installation of Board by ASI which reads the hill lock as Koh-e-Maran in which the Shakti peeth or Chakreshwar is situated. This way the Government was trying to eliminate all symbols of ancient Kashmir and Hindu period, said Ramesh Manwati a Panun Kashmir activist. He said that besides the Chakreshwar Hill lock the name of world famous Shankaracharya Hill lock has also been changed as Takhat-e-Suliman even in official records and the Government of India stamped the same proposal. Terming it a dangerous trend Manwati said on the one hand Government is trying return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley to revive the pluralistic character of Kashmir but on the other hand it is trying to eliminate all the symbols which are identification of Kashmir's pluralism. Manwati said the historical town of Anantnag was already named as Islamabad while the radical forces are in a process to change the names of other places which are linked to glorious Hindu period of Kashmir. Taking serious exception to this trend some Hindu organizations have decided to take up the issue with union Government. |
