NSF warns JU administration to hold Students Union election

Jammu, July 7: The activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) today held a strong protest demonstration in near fountain plaza, University of Jammu (JU) demanding conduct of Student Union Election as promised by the Vice Chancellor.
The demonstration continued with sloganeering against the University administration for not conducting the election.
NSF president Vikas Sharma said, “Students of University are facing a lot and had there been students Union, the same issues could have been taken up effectively with the authorities of problems owing to defunct administration. There is no platform for students to highlight their grievances as the University authorities are deliberately pushing the conduct of Student Union election under the carpet despite of the fact that same was approved by the University Council."
He further said that even Governor has directed the Vice Chancellor to hold the elections at the earliest but University didn't responded appropriately. The new hostel for Boys in University is yet to be completed owing to which students are offering for the want of accommodation.
It is very costly for them to arrange accommodation privately. Also, the University has unilaterally increased the fee for various services hence putting financial burden on the poor students.
Choudhary, said that Prof Varun Sahni is shielding fraudulent and corrupt officials of the university. “The higher officials of the varsity are living a luxurious life by spending the funds meant for students’ community, while students are being deprived of basic amenities and infrastructure .this is not to be tolerated,” he charged.
Ravi demanded that Student Union election be held as early as possible otherwise, the NSF will continue with protest demonstrations to push the authorities for the same.
Among those who were present in the protest includes, Surjit Choudhary, Ravi Choudhary, Parshotam Singh, Manjit Singh, Anil Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Abhimanu, Sanjay Sharma, Sanjay Thakur, Zulfkar, and others.
