LA Panel conducts on spot inspection of vulnerable roads
Tarigami for improving road communication

SRINAGAR, July 7:
Stressing the need for proper regulation of traffic system and strict enforcement of traffic rules, Chairman, House CommitteeM Y Tarigami called for taking long and Short term measures to check incidence of frequent road accidents in hilly areas of KiShtwar, Doda and Ramban districts.
The Chairman was addressing a joint meeting of the committee members, engineers of PWD, PMGSY, GREF, officers of Revenue, Police, Traffic, Transport and other line departments at Kishtwar today after having on-the-spot inspection of vulnerable patches on Symthan-Kishtwar-Doda road.
Tarigami said hilly districts crave for special attention to improve road communication as these districts are accident prone and roads are hilly and serpentine.
The condition of existing roads, transport facilities, up-gradation of Batote-Kishtwar-Symthan road, disaster management, provision of healthcare at District Hospital and related issues came up under discussion during the meeting.The Committee discussed the steps to be taken for reducing chances of accidents on these roads. It also listed the suggestions and views of the participants for their incorporation in its final report to be submitted to the Government for implementation.The suggestions obtained from various stakeholders include construction of cemented walls and steel barriers at the vulnerable sites along the KiShtwar- Batote highway, immediate widening of curves on all roads, strictly enforcement of traffic rules, checking over-loading menace on all routes of these districts, Earlier, DDC, Kishtwar gave brief resume of administrative actions taken to tackle the problem of road mishaps.
A number of deputations from Kokernag, Synthontop, Chingam, Chhatroo, Mughalmaidan,Dadpath, Kuryai, Bandarkoot, Cherkar and Chenab Hydro Power Station, Kishtwar also called on Chairman recording their suggestions with the committee during its 2-day tour to these hilly districts.
