Commissions led to mismanagement of Amarnath yatra: VHP | Failure on part of Govt, Board to implement recommendations of various | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 7: The failure of State Government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to implement the recommendations of justice Parmodh Kohli, Justice Mookerjee and Nitish Sen Gupta Committee recommendation in letter and spirit has led to present problems to the yatris. According to sources the problems faced by the Amarnath pilgrims could have been eased to a great extent had the authorities and Board implemented the recommendations of these Committees and there would have been no mess due to the heavy influx of yatra. By throwing these recommendations to dust bin and not acting on these suggestions has led to the problems and mismanagement of yatra by both Board and Government alleged VHP state president and member Baba Amarnath yatri Niyas. Dr dubey who had played a leading role in running the yatra in 1996 after the militants gave an open threat to it said the lack of cooperation and coordination between Board and Government has been root cause of the problem. He alleged that failure of the Board to take the Niyas into confidence and accept its suggestions on smooth conduct of the yatra is another cause of prevailing mess. ``We are practically involved in running the yatra for last over 14 years, said Dr Dubey and all the suggestions given by us on the smooth conduct of yatra are based on our practical experience''. But the Board has never bothered to take us into confidence or pay a heed to the suggestions given by the Niyas from time to time. He said in its recommendations Justice Kohli commission had suggested installation of mobile STDs and mobile medical aid centers enroute besides construction of shelter houses. But these recommendations were never met resulting in the yatra mess due to increasing rush. Had the government taken care of these recommendations the problems on account of heavy influx of pilgrims could have been eased to a great extent. Moreover the Government and the Board has also failed to adhere to the recommendations of Niyas on preservation of ice Shiv Lingam at holy cave. The VHP leader who expressed concern over the melting of Shivlingam due to pollution and increasing rush of pilgrims at holy cave suggested that immediate steps be taken for its preservation. The Board and Government without losing any moment should take steps in this regard and first it should restrict the yatris entry in the cave shrine at a time. Secondly there should be blanket ban on use of LPG, K-oil within two kilometer area of holy cave. Besides the helicopter service should be restricted to Panchtarni only so that no pollution is created at Shrine. Holding the Board and Governemnt responsible for the problems Dr Dubey wanted to know why the recommendations of the three Committees were not implemented and why the suggestions of the niyas are not being accepted. He said Niyas was always ready to cooperate with the Board but it is the latter which is always taking a unilateral decision. He said the mismanagement on the part of the Board has led to fleecing of yatris by the private shopkeepers in Valley which forced many pilgrims to return without darshan after their entire money was exhausted. |
